"I ran this FIX on W2000 OS/cpu and it really works, now
all is OK. I stopped auto/update manualy once a week.
I Cant thank this person enough, Pozdrawiam serdecznie
and for you all at this great Newsgroup Site".

Follow the below instructions:
-----
"Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose
shutdown.

Right click and "Save target as..."

tData.gcd

Save to...these files to Program files/Microsoft
Antispyware directory, will ask to repace each of these
files, click Yes, and will download each file.

[as I believe the problem or BUG seams to be with these
three original files downloaded]

Restart MSAS and "check for updates"
Done until MS realize that this is a bug.............."

Hi,

This solution was provided by Taxman, not me :) and now is very, very
usefull, so all the respects belong to him :)
But this is how community works - to help the others :)

By the way - "pozdrawiam serdecznie" means "kind regards" in my own,
complicated but native language ;-)

Okay, I've done AL this and forced a manual update to
5731. However, as soon as the program does its scheduled
automatic "Check for Updates", it simply downloads and
rewrites 5729 over it - time and time again!

It also fails to recognize that 5731 is installed and
downloads it again each time even after it has been
installed.

This is really a bit disappointing; surely this isn't
THAT challenging a programming correction to resolve
this?

ahhh i'm relieved that i'm not the only one experiencing
this annoying problem. in my case, MSAS seems to be stuck
on version 5725 definitions because no matter how many
times the updater is launched, it reports that definitions
5725 are being updated to 5731... ad nauseam. i guess
that's why they call it "Beta," but disappointing
nevertheless, and serious because MSAS is simply a waste
of system resources with an outdated antispyware database.

MS should identify and fix the problem asap, probably
updated executables are needed, i'm guessing.

The problem with the workaround is that sometimes the
http:// prefix must be set to https:// in order for it to
work. I think this is a problem on the server that
Microsoft is using for the updates.
