Hi,

I have downloaded manually signatures using your procedure, and now MSAS
shows the new version 5731 :)
The funny thing is, I have done this today on two machines - and now one
shows that the spyware definitions were updated on July 1, 2005; and second
one, that they were updated on July 27, 2005 :-D
What a mess.. ;-)



And for all of you, who do not know how to manually update singatures - here
goes plun's procedure how to download and update manually MSAS:


"Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose shutdown.

Right click and "Save target as..."

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware

Restart MSAS and "check for updates"

Done until MS realize that this is a bug.............."

I believe when you manually download them you have a new date/timestamp
but inside these definitions you have real stamps, how they are
compilated I dont know and with which tool ?

Nevertheless this is a mess and if you have visit CERT.org anytime this
is really
outstanding for a security product, this is not Moviemaker or Age of
Empires..............!

I know its a "beta", "Singing in the rain"...............

Spyware definitions: 5731
No longer downloads definitions 5731 repeatedly.

Used your manual download-and-replace procedure, but
without success until I tried using https://. As another
user Alan suggested, one of the update servers may be
missing a file or is serving an obsolete file, and the
secure server may be the good server. IOW, this repeated
update behavior may be an update server administration
issue, not a programmatic issue.

Anyway, hopefully the information below may help the
Microsoft administrators sort out what is happening. No
additional errors were logged since MSAS stopped trying
to re-update to 5731.

Unfortunately, long lines will wrap -- but I didn't want
to send a binary zip attachment on a forum.

Thank you very much for your generous words, but all the splendour and
respect for this manual update solution belongs to Taxman, who discovered it
