This is getting old and annoying!

XP pro sp2 system.

The Security Center \ Alert Settings \ Firewall is disabled (unchecked) -
been triple verified!

The Services \ Windows Firewall IS disabled and NOT started - been triple
verified!

Yet, and still (it's happened before and on advise from here I disabled the
Firewall in Services) , I got a Security warning icon in the trey when I
booted this morning.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated!

NAV 2004 pro is running and up to date.
No software firewall other than the Windows Firewall is installed.
I am behind a hardware firewall.

The Firewall Services is disabled.

My question remains - What's causing/allowing the tray notice to appear
randomly ?

Are you running additional Firewall or Antivirus solutions on your system,
check for updates to those and also check Windows Update and do an Express
check for updates.

Also update your antivirus program just in case.

I had exactly the same and decided that seeing as my Firewall, and AV program
check themselves on boot up for updates then I would carry on monitoring it
myself. I ended up disabling the service for Security Center and now it leaves
me in peace!!

I use Norton Internet Security (Firewall and Antivirus)
and encountered some spurious warnings from Windows
Security Console as well. Per the Symantec site, I needed
to install the Symantec Windows Management Instrumentation
update by repeatedly running Liveupdate manually. See
www.symantec.com for details.

I only use Norton Antivirus, not their firewall.
Therefore, I should have nothing interfering with my *firewall* security
items.

Well not the same thing just happened on my XP home SP2 system.

I HAVE the Windows Firewall Service DISABLED!

I HAVE the Security Center Firewall Alert DISABLED!

I those SOBs at Microsoft keep insisting that I use their damn firewall I
guess I'll just have to spend the time to find where it is their are
triggering this alert from and get rid of it the hard way.

Sorry for the rant - but this stuff really irks me!
