SP2 Security Center problem

Peter Afonin

Hello,

I finally installed SP2 on Windows XP Pro.

I have ZoneAlarm Antivirus and Symantec Antivirus. I turned ZA Antivirus
off, and using it as a firewall only. For some reason the SP2 Security
Center doesn't recognize Symantec, and every time I restart my PC gives me
an message that my computer is at risk. So every day I open Security Center
and check the box that I have another Antivirus program. I also uncheck
Antivirus under Alerts settings. Doesn't matter - next morning I start my PC
and getting the same messages again.

I even found an article how to turn these messages off in the Registry. Done
this - same thing.

Do you know how to get rid of these annoying alerts for good?

I would appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Thank you!

Unfortunately, this update is for Norton Antivirus, I have Symantec
Antivirus (corporate product) which doesn't have this update.

And it's still a problem with the Security Center, because all my attempts
to turn the alerts off don't work.

Probably because the Security Center monitoring starts before the SAV
is fully up & running. Security Center is basically a "Nag" type of feature
and if you have both AV/Firewall you might just consider setting the start
mode of Security Center to Disabled. Not an elegant solution, but will
stop the alerts.
Click Start, Run (Type) Services.Msc [Enter]
Toggle the bottom TAB to Standard
Locate Security Center, Right Click, Left Click Properties, in the Startup
Type box toggle the setting to Disabled, Apply & OK

Or set the security center to not nag you about it.. (in left column when
opening security center it says: change the way it reports or something
like that)

Thank you, Thomas, but, as I mentioned in my first message, I do this every
day - it works until next time I restart my PC.

Perform your updates with Norton. They have an update which addresses
this
very issue.
