XP Security Warning???

Hello every one,

I purchased a Sony Vaio VGC-LS1 machine that came preinstalled with Windows
XP MCE 2005 & tagged trial version of Norton Internet Security 2006.

Despite uninstalling NIS 2006 trial as per Symantec support methods &
installing new antivirus software I occasionally but regularly get an XP
Security Alert warning... “Norton Anti Worm Not Enabled.....Your Computer
might be at a risk"

The red icon stays there for 2-4 seconds before disappearing & so does the
displayed alert.

Analysts at Symantec have done all they possibly could.

Most view that NIS has made certain changes in the XP Security Center & may
be System 32 files that cause this annoying alert to appear despite that
there are no remnants of either Norton or Symantec either in files folders or
machines registry...

How can I get rid of this occasional but regularly appearing annoying message?

Hoping to hear from you smart people & MSVPs......

Regards!

Well I will make sure that all traces for Norton removed from the system and
the registry.
To do that search for them or download this tool:
http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm
Be sure that what you are deleting are not system files/folders.
Then try to reinstall the Anti-virus software.
HTH.
Let us know.

My machine is clean of Norton & Symantec files, folders & registry entries.

I don't like Symantec products, so don't want to install NIS 2006 again.

Got it as a free trail version 3rd party software with windows XP that came
with my machine.

Regards!

1. Run the SymNRT removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

2. The machine is already infected.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
