Firewall Alert Setting Keeps Reverting

I have a firewall router between me and the cable modem. I
selected the box in Firewall "Recommendations" that
says, "I have a firewall solution that I will monitor
myself".
I then went to the section on the left labeled "Change the
way Security Center alerts me", and unchecked "Firewall".
The next morning I turn on the computer and everything has
been reset. The Recommendation box has been unchecked and
Firewall is checked in the way Security Center alerts me.
Am I missing some other setting or is Microsoft just bound
and determined to make me deal with the Alert Center
balloon in the system tray every morning?

On some systems those settings don't stick. In that case turn off the
security center service in services.msc.
