Theme disappears

I modified a theme and created some new pages under Home in the Navigation Panel. Everything worked great. I saved it, closed it, went back later and opened the site to continue working and the Theme; banner, navigation, etc. no longer shows up. I tried to reapply about the theme but nothing happens. How do I apply the theme permanently so that it doesn't disappear?
 
Whenever you edit a theme always save as a new theme name
- also only apply themes to Webs (not just a page)
