The Routing and Remote Access service terminated

G

Guest

I'm trying to set up a home network with two Win XP machines. However, while
in the wizzard, I get the error message. In the Event log it says <The
Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error
2147483720 (0x80000048).> In the System log the RAS is Started (I tried it
both Manually and Auto). A MS KB article suggests some solutions, but refers
to a 2000 and 2003 Servers, which is not my case...
May someone please help me to fix this problem and get RAS running?
Thanks.

Robert,
thanks for your suggestions. I looked them over and they all look too technical for my level. Nevertheless, I tried the rarepair, but it did not help. I got the same error message...
I used to have network before, both wireless and cable, but somehow they disappeared...

Ilya

OneCare could be the problem. Can you disable it for testing?

Sure, I've checked all the services, all started...
I think, I didn't mention that I'm running WLOC (Windows Live OneCare)
Service. If you're familiar with it, do you think it could be the culprit?

Well, it's WLOC. Within it there is a tool for adjusting firewall. After
adjustment, I was able to "create" the network... However, it does not work.
On one machine the error says "the path not found", on another "it's not
accessible".
Any suggestions on how to proceed from here?

Bob,
I've tried several suggestions - nothing works... The funny thing, yesterday, I finally set up a network on one machine (actually a Guest) and was able to get into the files on the Host machine. There was NO network on the Host... Do not ask me how could it be...This morning, after rebooting, the network on the Guest disappeared...
Thanks for your help.
