Hi,

I can find many advices on the web on how to secure an XP box, but what
I would like to find is a more _systematic_ approach: what are the
steps that one needs to take right after installation; what are the
measures that one needs to perform regularily; which site(s) should I
visit regularily to be informed of security alerts...

Today I will help a friend who thinks she has a virus on her WindowsXP
box. I think she was a bit loose on security, although she has NortonAV
and a firewall. If you would reinstall XP, where can I find a list of
patches that should be applied to secure the box?

The firewall MUST be operational BEFORE connecting the computer to the
internet.
Install ALL Critical Updates.
Install Service Pack first and alone.
Install other Critical Updates no more than 4 at a time.
