The musings of a suicidal Linux user

sorry Urmas, I edited my post.

I know all about the desktops and wabbleis and cubes and I can recite the "how to" in Cantonese ... I got tripped up by the two interesting tools, looking to replace GKrellM, (which works) with something that I don't have to startup on reboots.

AM-NV SysMonitor

and

EG-SysMon-QC

I got the first one installed, and, uninstalled it. Not bothered trying the other one. I'm gettin a bit fed up jumping through hoops.

So, what you wanna know about KDE then? :)

You could try this tip from 2005 to get GKrellM to auto start.

http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/16267.html

One last thing I want is to be able to automatically run gkrellm when I log into KDE. To do this, we write a little script:

#!/bin/sh gkrellm

Puzzled as to why you can not get 64 bit Boinc and Skype. They are both available as 64 or 32 bit in Arch.

Sounds like you are having fun penguining :thumb:Bet you are seeing tons of changes/improvements in comparison to Mandrake. ;)

@ Abarbarian ...

I have no problems with GKrellM, it even works in Windows, it auto starts in the same place it has always done, it works with no problems whatsoever ... it's no longer supported and therefore not Plasma widget aware.

So, I went looking for an alternative that is "designed" for Plasma KDE ... just happens the two I wanted to look at are not totally compatible. They actually Superkaramba which was the widget packager of the day.

This new "stuff", KDE Plasma, seems to have a lot of potential ... I like it a lot.

@ Urmas
it's the RAT 5 ... I have found similar postings of a fix, shame there is nothing from the makers themselves ... nothing!

It's a very popular gaming mouse, I suppose I could just use the £3.50 USB mouse I got from Asda, it does work. Probably has something to do with the image I get about Linux not being a gaming platform. ;)

I paid £45.00 for this mouse ... I have a ticket in over on their website asking for a refund. :)

The Life of a Linux User. :fool:

There are brazillions of hardware makers like that out there. And yet, most of the hardware is functional in Linux... either out-of-the-box, or — like here — with a bit of blood, sweat & tears (aka configuring).

Aye, and where is the 'fun' if you don't have to configure at least one piece of hardware in Linux. :)

I still got a ticket in, maybe I'll get a refund and go get a Tesco mouse.

My bad. I read the above as you having trouble with auto starting.

Not a plasmid but infinitly customisable, there are some corking looking ones, Corky that old standby.
