The appearances of microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers has changed.

I use to be able to view the question and a dropdown menu to read the responses.

Now, under Subject, all I view is this example; "Re: Cannot remove read only attribute"

Under From: Wesley Vogel

Under sent: 3/30/05

I use this site often and find it very useful.

I would like to view it the way I use to.

Thank you for your help,

Try this: In the 'View' settings for your browser, reset to normal or 100%
Good luck!

Thank you for your help,

In an Outlook Express window, click Tools> Options:
Check that you still have Outlook Express setup to "group conversations."

Also, if you have your view set to show unread posts only, you may have
already read previous posts and only newer responses are showing. You can
toggle the view back to "All messages" to review the entire thread.

Even after doing these things, you may run across messages that just don't
thread properly. They will appear as "orphans." Unfortunately, there's no
way to tie orphans back in with their original threads.

Hey! I resemble that remark. :)

Seriously, see Sharon F's post.

I occasionally, by accident, unset from group conversations. I'm not
sure how I do this, but it is annoying.

I'm curious, What is the big advantage of using the newsreader. I only ask
because I only use the web interface and don't have any issues. Is it simply
the ease of choosing just unread items.
Just curious!

There's much more to it than that - a newsreader will allow you to see
only threads to which you have posted, it will put a "Re:" at the front
of the subject on reply, so people don't think it's a new thread,
searching is much easier and more comprehensive, you can sort posts by
sender, subject, date recieved, in fact do with posts most things you
can do with email.

I’m using msnews.microsoft.com in Outlook Express, because the web interface
requires you to use your net passport.

That has my e-mail address on it.

I just discovered that I could check the square in front of the box below.

Do not remember my e-mail address for future sign-in. (Select this when
using a public computer.)

I already made one mistake and I was receiving numerous spam e-mails.

I tried several programs to stop the spam, but none were satisfactory.

Finally, I changed my e-mail address. It made me very cautious.

The change in appearance is that I can’t view the + sign indicating group
conversations.

An example is Re: The appearances of microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers.

I was spending a lot of time looking around for the question.

I could not view Sharon’s suggestion below

In an Outlook Express window, click Tools> Options:
Check that you still have Outlook Express setup to "group conversations."

However, Under View, Current view, I could check Group Messages by
Conversations!!!

Now it appears the way I wanted it too.

In writing this reply, the problem was solved.

I thank Gordon, Sharon, Dan & Wesley.

And to add to the above, a newsreader can download all the unread
messages at once. So when you go from one message to the next, it
happens instantly, instead of having to wait for the message to
download. The result is that it's *much* faster to use.

Most newsreaders also have things like spell checkers, kill
filters, etc. They let you look at attachments (although that's a
mixed blessing; it can be safer not to do so). They also permit
replying directly to the sender by E-mail (although that is
usually inappropriate, sometimes a poster will invite you to do
so).

Dan,

Please send the information for the web interface.

Even though my problem is solved, I am interested.
