For a one time $3.95 fee you -could- get a 50 MB daily download of
newsgroups and binary groups for free from that point on...I've used them
free for years, suddenly the server is gone, the site is gone....looks like
they are gone. Anyone know wassup?

Ah, thanks I tried to get to their home site but that too was down. Much

What's the difference? They (and Bubbanews) have been returning "access
denied to your node" to me for months. Nobody seems to know what this
means, and they refuse to answer e-mails.

They're not the best at service, absolutely. Takes days to get an email
back if at all. I believe I had the same problem months ago and ultimately
they had changed their server addy or some similar thing. Then they set up
a 'you must have a verifiable email address' and as mine had been bogus for
years suddenly my account was inactively locked. A quick change of addy
brought it back, but it was an odd (and unannounced) change. You might want
to look at your account page, if it's the email you'll see a big all cap
warning about it.

I tried that. The change wouldn't "take." Maybe I'll try it again, though
I've since switched to Shemes. OT, but 5 bux a month for 5 gigs is a damn
good deal.

Just stop complaining and change the server name to
free.teranews.net
and it will work fine.

Yeah it is!

Also,if memory serves correctly, they had a major server crash some time
back and had to restore everything from backup. I was having the same
connection problems until I used the "forgot password" link and found out
that my password had been reset back to one I had been using earlier.

Good luck.

They're back up now, they had a tiff with their server people and it came
down to near blows...but they acquiesed and now they are up and running
again.

Thanks!
