Temporary Lock Up of IE 6

M

Mike B

Two days ago I began having a problem with IE 6. When I
click on a link, the full web page loads and then IE locks
up for 10-15 seconds. The status bar at the bottom says
"Done," but I have to wait to access the page.

I thought I found a fix on the MS site. The patch Q818506
sounds like it addresses this issue, but when I try to
install the patch I get an error saying "This update
requires Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 to be
installed." I have the following installed: SP1, Q822925,
Q330994, Q828750, Q824145, Q831167, Q832894

I tried to totally uninstall IE and start from scratch, but
I can only see the service pack installs for IE in the "Add
and Remove Programs" of Windows XP. I removed them, tested
IE, and the problem still existed. I reinstalled them and
the problem still exists.

Can someone help? I have had to use Netscape the last two
days and it stinks.

Mike, I have the same problem. It started Feb 28th for me. I also uninstalled IE6 and reinstalled with all updates available and still have the problem. I ran my virus update, etc. Nothing worked. I downloaded Netscape and am using that in the meantime, but it is not very good. If anyone out there can help, we would appreciate it. My last choice is to reformat, but I am not ready to do that yet. I am hoping for a different solution.

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

.Well it worked for me. I have spybot s&d and i just
downloaded adaware and run that and you were right about
it finding different spyware. It solved my problem and
now my computer is running great again. Thanks so much
for the help. You were also right about the name
[scumware] .Thanks again!

I did pull updates to just about every Spyware that
everyone has mentioned. Again, good practice, waste of
time in actually resolving the issue. Haven't posted the
log. Giving up, moving to Netscape 7.1.

HijackThis? Yeah I ran that piece of junk again and now I
don't even get a web site that's locked up for 45 seconds.
LOL- Now it doesn't work at all which is actually working a
little better. Of course all those freeware program are
"at your own risk". Breaks your machine, oh well!

Adaware and Spybot S & D did clean a bunch of junk. Still
doesn't work.
