Template Trouble

E

Erika

I have a few documents that were created from a template on our network.
Those templates have since been moved. Now every time I open the documents I
get a message in the status bar that looks like it is trying to connect to
the old template location it takes a long time to open the document. I am
using Word 2007, any idea how I can fix this.

In the documents in question, you can delete the reference to the
non-existing template. This will not change anything in the documents:

On the Developer tab, click Document Template. Clear the “Document templateâ€
field. Make sure that “Automatically update document styles†is unchecked.
OK. Now the document will be attached to your Normal.dotm. Alternatively, you
can attach each documents to the correct template - but the result will be
the same unless the template contain e.g. macros and AutoTexts you want to
get access to.

If the Developer tab is not visible, select Office button > Word Options >
Popular category. Turn on â€Show Developer tab in the Ribbonâ€.
