TCP/IP problem

my tcp/ip wont work, can't get online, get ping, when i'm
in command prompt and type 'ipconfig', this error pos up:

Windows IP Configuration

An internal error occurred: A device attached to the
system is not functioning. Please contact Microsoft
Product Support Services for further help. Additional
information: Unknown media status code.

I also upgradeed from xp home to xp profesional, but that
problem still persist. my firewall isa turned off and i
access the web through a cable modem made by RCA, w/o a
router. it may believed to be known sumthing with the
tcpip.sys, but don't know that for sure. can n e body help
me out.

start--control panel--classic view--system icon--
hardware tab--device manager button--check network
adapters--try rolling back the drivers,or if your
connection is turned off turn it back on.if it was reboot
after you turn it on.
