Task Manager not remain open; no Klez, no Yaha

I am running XP Home Version on a desktop PC.
I right-click an empty area of the taskbar,
and then click Task Manager to start Task Manager.
Task Manager window opens briefly and then
closes after staying open less than one second.

I downloaded the Klez or Yaha virus fix tool from the
suggested site, verified the Digital Sig was good,
disabled auto restore, shutdown, waited 30+sec, rebooted
in SafeMode and ran the Tool.

The Fix-Tool did not find either Klez or Yaha virus.

Hopefully there are additional suggestions ?

I am experiencing the same problem. No viruses were found
in my system either. I tried to rebulid my system with no
success in resolving the task manager, regedit staying
available.
