System Tray Icons Missing - only Logout/Login Fixes - ATTN Windows XP Support Team

R

Rob Barbour

The System
------------
OS: WindowsXP SP2
Mem: 1 GIG
CPU: P4-3 GHZ

The Issue
----------
Systray icons are missing after logging in

Only Resolution To Date
-------------------------
log out and then log in

Key points
-----------
- auto login is NOT enabled
- hide inactive icons is NOT enabled

What I've Done To Date
-------------------------
1. Searched Google Groups (groups.google.com) (hundreds of others have this
issue)
2. Tried the tips on Kelly's site
(http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_n.htm#na)
3. Created a new profile (per Microsoft support)
4. Tried hiding inactive icons, apply, and then unhiding all icons
5. Tried refreshing the System Tray via VB and API calls
6. Tried many registry changes from suggestions on Google
7. Waited 10 minutes after reaching the "Welcome" screen before attempting
to log in
8. Logged in immediately after reaching the "Welcome" screen

The shear fact that so many people have this issue with WindowsXP leads me
to believe that this is an issue that Microsoft needs to address ASAP. I'm
now at a point where logging in/out/in gets tiresome and I'd like a
solution.

I'm now begging and pleading for an actual solution, hotfix, or someone
admitting this is an issue :)

Thanks,

Rob

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the 'support team' This group is designated for the Help and Support APP, and only questions
on that issue would attract an MSFT member.

You probably have a damaged profile

Try Settings: Control Panel: User Account. Look in there and uncheck anything
that has a related log in.
