Expand/Collapse System Tray button missing

Hi, my expand/collapse system tray button is missing. I've restarted
my computer at least 3 times, but it didn't help - it's still not
there. Most of my tray icons are set to hide when inactive, except for
3-5 icons. In total, I have 21 icons, so they take up a lot of space.
I think it may have something to do with ask.com (the search
engine). I was using it today, as well as last night to perform some
searches (though I normally use Google). It seemed to slow my internet
down last night. Today, my internet totally stopped working - although
my router status said I should be able to browse successfully. A few
restarts to the router fixed that. But now my system tray button is
gone. Does anyone know why, and how to fix this?

Right click on the system tray and select properties; On the taskbar
tab there is a button "customise" next to hide inactive icons; click it
and you will see a list in the first half of the new box; Select the
first item and change it to always hide; Click OK and everyting will be
hidden;
