System Restore

My XP home edition has a problem with the System Restore. there are no
automatic restore points and when I attempt to set a restore point the
program stops responding. Is there anything I can do to restore the
function?

Do you have adequate disk space?
When it stops responding, what do you do then (end
task/reboot/etc)?
You might want to check out your event viewer too(control
panel > administrative tools); see if you can find any
error/warning messages which occur at the time you were
trying to create a restore point.
