System Restore points - not working

O

occam

Today I tried to 'System Restore' my PC (Win XP SP2) to an earlier point
(yesterday's checkpoint) -- with no success.

The system behaves normally, asks for confirmation of restore to earlier
point, re-boots normally, and there is the message:

'Unable to restore the computer to earlier point - no changes were made
to the system.'

I tried this for 2-3 more (earlier) restore points - always with the
same result.

What is wrong? (I have checked, the System Restore Service in the list
of services is “Started” automatically)

Thanks

FWIW I've found that if I have more than one drive or partition and let SR
manage both I'm Ok. But if I disable SR on one of the drives I often find it
fails.

Hi,

Kaspersky can cause System Restore to fail also. If the problem pops up
again use these troubleshooting steps.

See if System Restore will function in Safe Mode.

Boot into Safe Mode and perform a test restore using the following link.

Thanks Bert, I already stumbled across your pages, and found a solution.

Next time I'll try the 'Safe Mode' approach ;-)
