When I do a system restore it goes through the whole process and when I
restart it , it tells me the system could not be restored.... I try a
different date and get the same thing. Any help is appreciated.

Hi

One or more of the System Restore files could have been corrupted - try
turning SR off/on - but I'm afraid that you will lose any existing
checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After
that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all
drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one
new SR checkpoint.

I don't know if this applys to other computers but I have a Compaq Presario
which is also made by HP and before installing SP2 I had to download software
from HP to correct this problem. It may be something common to windows XP SP2
service pack so if this only started after you installed SP2 I would look to
a remedy of this nature.

Hi Will,
If you log onto Hp.com, find their support page and look for the link to
Windows XP SP2 update then locate the information regarding system restore.

The download is called SP 26352 and also has the ref. Microsoft QFE(KB
835409) which is why I suspect Microsoft know about this.

I'm not a computer expert but I hope this may be useful to you.

Hi

That is one of HP's own files. I don't which particular MS problem it is
supposed to correct as that KB article is no longer available.

Well, I just downloaded it, so it is still available. I need it for my
brothers comp.
