System Restore Problem

D

Dick Reuben

System restore won't work. When I try to run it I get a message that
says "System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please
restart and then run System Restore again."

Restarting the system does no good...I keep getting the same message.
System Restore is enabled in CntrlPanel.

What thoughts do you have.

Hi Dick,

Disable system restore, delete the contents of the System Volume Information
folder, reboot, then restart system restore. You will lose all existing
restore points, but there is not much else you can do when these issues
arise.

Disabled it...now it won't restart.

Is "System Volume Information" the correct name for the folder..I
can't find one by that name?

Hi,

You're not set to see hidden and system folders. Go to the Control
Panel/Folder Options, and on the View tab, set the options so you can see
hidden and system files. Specifically:

Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"

I also recommend that you disable (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file
types". You should find the SVI folder on the root of C: and on any other
physical or logical drive that was monitored by system restore.
