system not booting

staring windows displays a sorry for the inconvenince but
windows was unable to load due to software/hardware
error. You can choose from safe mode, safe mode with
commands, last know good, and normal

No matter what you select the system locks up and goes no
further.....

I'm getting the same exact thing...running Windows XP
Home. This just occurred yesterday, don't know if it is
worm-virus related. The only suggestion I received from
computer mfr (OEM version) is to use restore CD to
reformat & reload Windows XP. Needless to say...as with
most of us....I haven't really backed-up at all or for
some time. Have you come across any help anywhere with
this issue and can offer any assistance/recommendations ?
