System freezes when running Microsoft Antispyware

Guest

I just installed Microsoft's Anti-syware and then attempted to run a scan for
the first time. The scan runs fine for a few minutes and then when it
reaches the file "verifier.exe" located at:
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\verifier.exe" the program freezes as does the entire
system (ie. cursor freezes, keyboard freezes, etc...) I have tried
uninstalling then rebooting, running ccleaner (as well as deleting all MSAS
folders and teh GCColection.dll, hashlib.dll, and gcUnCompress.dll) then
rebooting, and then reinstalling and rebooting. I am still encountering the
same problem. I suspect it has something to do with the verifier.exe program
because when I run a search for "verifier.exe", the system reboots when it
finds it.

Any words of wisdom or help?

Thanks,
Justin

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I have tried running in safe mode and all errors are replicated there.

Hi Justin;

or

This is a AndyM or Ron Kinner case beacuse I cannot find any good advice
within any forum without using HijackThis and
to be carefully guided.
.Get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe
http://computercops.biz/HijackThis.html

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select Scan and Save Log.
Note where you saved the log then
send it to him as an attachment. Put Hijack in the subject so he'll know
it's not spªm.

Alternatively you can post it on the Dell Forum ªt:

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack

(if it wraps you can go tº:

http://tinyurl.com/ckuzq instead.)

Put Ron in the subject so he will see it. You do not need to have a Dell to
post but you will need to register.

I'm still having difficulties with this issue. I have attempted to delet the
c:\WINDOWS\System32\verifier.exe program, but the system freezes even when I
click on the file.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello Justin

can you delete the file from a dosbox?
If you delete the file Xp replace the file almost direct!

Thanks for the response. I was able to succesfully delete the program.
Everything seems to be working perfectly (in a Windows way). Thanks for the
help. The system has NOT replaced the file. Is there a need for that file,
or can I live without it?

Thanks!

Hello Justin,

there must be a backup in windows\system32\dllcash
if you need it, i think so, because windowsxp at mine machine put it back!

I'm not sure what's going on here. There is a legit Windows file
\windows\system32\verifier.exe

I'm not sure whether it is covered by System File Protection or not--It
appears to me that it is a command-line utility--and maybe not likely to be
used by the average person.

What I'm not sure about is whether it is used as part of some other
process--such as SFC /scannow, which you might have a need for.

I'd check whether it has been recreated, and I'd also do a chkdisk of your
system--I wonder whether this issue might relate to a disk or filesystem
error problem.
