System event log

L

Larry Huffman

I cannot view my system event log. The application, DNS, etc logs do not
show immediately...I ahve to hit refresh and nthen they show. The system log
never does show, however. It says that there are 2700+ items in it and
fields highlight where the entries should be, but nothing shows.

Does anyone know how to repair this behavior and what is causing it?

Thanks

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Then; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

The more permanent fix;
