system crash

I upgraded to XP from 2000 this past summer. Recently,
whenever I leave the computer "idle", no matter what I
have open, the system freezes up and I have to power off
to restart. Mouse and keyboard are both inoperable. I
have disabled screensaver thinking that was problem, but
still happens. I have re-installed XP but still happens.
Am I missing something basic?

Might try this...

In the Screensaver tab check the settings under Power and set the
selections to Never, unless it's a laptop, then set them to Never for
when plugged in to AC power.

did you recently install new Windows updates?

I did and experienced the same problem. I have rolled back the updates and
I'm fine.
