Sysfader: Explorer.exe Application Error

D

Darryl

I have a computer here running XP Home which brings up
this error "Sysfader:Explorer.exe Application Error
memory address could not be written to click 'cancel' to
debug'

This happens when ever you try and open something like
Control Panel, My Computer etc etc

I have scanned for viruses(externally), scanned for
Spyware using Ad Aware and the system comes up clean. The
computer is not overclocked. The memory has been checked
with diagnostics and comes up ok. I have run
sfc /scannow ... I've reinstalled IE6. I have run
chkdsk /r after booting off the XP CD and gone to the
command prompt. I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Has anyone seen this and been able to fix it without
reloading from scratch?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Darryl

Thanks for the reply.

It wasn't the Trojan mentioned. After a lot of fiddling
around it came down to a problem with Service Pack 2.
Uninstalled SP2 and the error has gone. Reinstall Sp2 and
the error returns. I've checked all areas of the computer
for that Winshow trojan and its not there.

I might try a clean install and then install SP2 from
there and see if it will reappear.

Thanks for your help.
