Syntax Error

Rita

I opened a program from a CD that is suppose to open up
and work from the internet(use interent explorer6). It
worked fine on my other computer but this computer just
came from the shop and I think it may just be something
that is not set right. When I open the program the first
page comes up but when I try to go any further an error
comes up that reads as follows res://shdoclc/syntax.htm#e-
book://. Does anyone know what this problem might be, I
have already contacted the people I got the CD from and
they have never heard of this happening. Virus and
spyware free. Thanks

When I open the program the first page comes up
but when I try to go any further an error comes up
that reads as follows res://shdoclc/syntax.htm#e-book://.

They must be assuming some kind of initialization
which was done on your other machine, perhaps was done once
on your problem machine but now after the servicing is not in effect.

Specifically your error message indicates that a non-standard
protocol called e-book is expected to be supported on your
machine. I'm surprised your product support wouldn't be able
to tell you at least how to uninstall their product (whatever it is)
and start over as if it had never been installed at all.

A poor alternative you could try which might work would be to use
the old machine's Control Panel's Folder Options applet to find
the file type association for that e-book "protocol". (E.g. use the
File Types tab and look for it under ones which have an extension
of (NONE).) Then see if you can duplicate the same association
using the Folder Options applet on your problem machine.

At the very least exploring the implementation using the old machine
could reveal how much else of the implementation on the problem
machine is missing (e.g. allow you to check if the executables were
still installed.)
