Links in OE don't work

Sometimes when I click a link in a email or news message in Outlook
Express, the link doesn't open in Firefox as it should. Instead,
Internet Explorer opens with a page res://ieframe.dll/syntax.htm# saying
that the address is incorrect. When I had IE6 the page was
res://shdoclc/syntax.htm# which said something like this: "Open the s:
home page, and then look for links to the information you want."

Now I have IE7 on Windows XP Pro SP2 and Firefox 2.0 as my default
browser. Most of the time when I click links in OE, they open in Firefox
but sometimes that weird thing happens. Does anyone know how to get rid
of that?

Hi Etunimi,

Do each of these in turn. Check your links in Outlook Express after
trying each solution.

If any of these have proven successful, go to Internet
Options->Programs and uncheck the box 'Internet Explorer should
check....default browser'.

1. Check that no other browser is set as the default browser.

2. Open Internet Explorer.
Click on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the
Programs tab.
Ensure that the 'Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the
default' check box is checked, click Apply, and then click OK.
Close Internet Explorer, re-open Internet Explorer, and then click
'Yes' when you receive the following prompt.

"Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish
to make it the default?"

3. If you have installed and/or uninstalled another browser, go to
Internet Options->Programs and click on the 'Reset Web Settings'
button.
Reboot

4. Go to Control Panel->Folder Options->File Types. Look for the
following 4 entries near the top of the listing:
URL:File Transfer Protocol
URL:Gopher Protocol
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with security

Do the following for each one on turn:
Click on 'Advanced' and then 'Edit'.
If necessary, re-type each of the two top dialog boxes to read as
follows:
Action: open
Application used to perform action: "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
Include the quotation marks and a space before the -nohome switch.
Check the 'Use DDE' box and, if necessary, type the following in each
box:
DDE Message: "%1",,-1,0,,,,
Application: IExplore
DDE Application not Running: leave this box blank
Topics: WWW_OpenURL

Click OK and Close
Repeat for the other File Types listed above.
Reboot.

5. Go to Start->Run and type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Reboot when the routine finishes.
