Cannot open .mht file in IE6

I have been creating/saving and opening .mht files using IE6 for years
but suddenly the ability to open the files results in the error message
"Page Cannot Be Displayed. Open the
res://C:\WINNT\system32\shdoclc.dll/syntax.htm#mhtml:file:// home page,
and then look for links to the information you want."
I have checked file associations and registry setting for the .mht fle
and can find no obvious problem. I have not installed any new software
on my PC, other than the auto-updates from Microsoft, Virus definitions
and Spyware updates.
I can still create .mht files using IE6, but not open them.
I can however open .mht files using MSword and Excel.
I am using IE6 SP1 version 6.0.2800.1106.
Can anyone please help me with this bizarre behaviour?

Hi Gabish,
You confusing me, you typed the error message OK, but I think you may saving
the IE HTML extension wrong (but not after all of these yrs of writing
html),try to open the HTM/HTML in Notepad and save as HTM/HTML to be able to
excute in IE.
Another thought is the path is correct for these HTM files to be excuted
Right!
and do you save them as ASCI.
