Suspected USB Problem

Windows XP SP3, Epson Perfection 1240U Photo Scanner, via a Belkin powered
USB Hub. I think everything worked fine until SP3 installed (or an update
about that time). Now the scanner can be reached fine using Scanner and
Camera Wizard, but by no other method. It usually just hangs the program
waiting for repsonse. Have tried MS Office Scanning and Adobe Photoshop 6.0.

My 1240U works fine after installing SP3.

I access it via PaintShop Pro

Make sure you have the latest TWAIN.

First thing I'd do is see if there are any updates from Epson. If there are
none, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer's current software.

I had already reinstalled TWAIN, the latest version, which did not help.
Since the scanner scans just fine, I suspect a communication path problem
involving USB. Discussions on other tech support sites indicate that some
kind of USB problem exists. I will try Paintshop if I have it, but I am not
looking for another workaround.
I want help in addressing the underlying problem.

As to updates, been there, done that. I don't understand why you are making
reference to a printer reinstall for a scanner problem, although my printer
is working fine over the same Belkin powered USB hub.

Sorry, I misspoke (or rather mis-typed). I was just talking to a friend
about a printer problem he was having, and had 'printer' stuck in my mind.

That said, any scanner (and printer) I've ever owned had interface software
that came with it, whether it was USB or PNP. I had no problem with my HP
USB all-in-one (printer, scanner, copier) after SP3, but you obviously are.
Just trying to help.

Good luck!

Not sure if this has any bearing on the subject, but I have an Epson
Perfection 1250 which works fine with SP3 installed.

One thing I suggest is to uninstall the Epson drivers; DISCONNECT the
scanner's from the PC; reinstall the drivers and THEN put back the USB
connection. I remember that my scanner HAD to be done in this order when
performing the installation. The scanner should only be connected after the
installation is completed.

Hopefully this will correct your problem.

Martin

ps: I am not shouting (upper case words) just trying to highlight the vital
points.
