USB Issue with Windows XP Pro

Briandp

I am running a Gigabyte 6-Quad 965P-DQ6 motherboard, with Windows XP Pro SP3
running the system. The processor is a Core 2 Duo Intel 2.6GHz. Prior to
installing SP3 I had been running a number of USB devices with no problem.
Of these one was a Capture unit for my Pinnacle Editor, the unit is the
700-USB and it worked just fine. Signal received by the computer everytime I
used the Editor. The other device is a Power Up photo card reader USB 2.0,
it also worked just fine. All the other devices work just fine, the same as
they did before SP3.

Now the 700-USB unit is not being received by the computer. I get a "No
signal received" notification. It is setup just as it always has been. The
other device, Power Up USB 2.0 appears to try and id at start up, but its
power light goes off and it will not read any of my photo cards. Before SP3
it worked great.

Over all the computer is running perfect and all other devices are running
just fine, I have three external hard drives, video camera, speakers, three
printers and several cameras that I plug in and all are working just fine.
Any ideas on the two problem children

Thanks
Briandp

And you, of course, installed SP3 without *anything* connected except
for your keyboard, mouse and monitor, right?

You disabled all anti virus and anti malware real time protection, right?

You rebooted twice after installing SP3, right? (I do it three times
just to make sure).

If not, it's not surprising that you're having problems. Use system
restore and prepare your computer before attempting SP3 again.

Have you installed the Intel Chipset Software Installation utility
yet? Give it a shot:

I would uninstall SP3 in Add or Remove Programs and then see if the
problem is rectified.

If it is, you can try installing SP3, making sure that you are
following all of the pre-install recommendations.
