I have setup SUS. This included rolling out the software
to all clients in the domain via Group Policy. Now on
every machine I get the following Application errors:

EventID: 1000, Source: Userenv
The Group Policy client-side extension Application
Management was passed flags (1) and returned a failure
status code of (1603).

EventID: 108, Source: Application Management
Failed to apply changes to software installation
settings. Software changes could not be applied. A
previous log entry with details should exist. The error
was Fatal error during installation. .

EventID: 102, Source: Application Management
The install of application Microsoft Windows Update Auto
Update from policy ADMIN USERNAME failed. The error was
Fatal error during installation.

EventID: 10000, Source: MsiInstaller
The description for Event ID ( 10000 ) in Source (
MsiInstaller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not
have the necessary registry information or message DLL
files to display messages from a remote computer. The
following information is part of the event: Product:
Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update -- Microsoft Windows
Update Auto Update requires Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows
XP., (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), (NULL).

My question is how do I get rid of these messages as they
appear on every 200 / XP client, regardless of SP
version???

Hi Chris,

First, I want to know whether you also applied the Service Pack or other
MSI installation files to the clients via the Group Policy. If yes, let's
try to create an OU. Move the client which needs to be installed with the
related Service Pack to the OU. Then, apply the group polcy to the OU to
install the Group Policy. Then, let's see whehter this works.

The Service Pack installation file only is the startup file. Most
installation files needs to be downloaded from Microsoft web site. So, if
you want to deploy the Service Pack, it's better to download the Service
Pack full installation version (Network Setup installation version) and
extract it to a network share. Then, apply the MSI file to the client which
needs the Service Pack by Group Policy. For example, we need to deplay the
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. We can download it from the Microsoft web
site. Then, extract vis the WinZip or WinRAR. Then, apply the update.msi to
the clients via the Group Policy.

Note: you need to share the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 installation folder
first. Please also create an OU which includes the all Windows 2000 clients
which needs to install the Service Pack 4. Then, create and apply the Group
Policy to install the Service Pack 4 to the OU.

This should solve the problem.

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

Sincerely,

Steven Liu
