Sun Java conflict freezes PC

Hi,
When I open the Java console (JRE 1.50_06) it freezes. Then the mouse
freezes and any subsequent applications I try to open freeze and I have to
reboot. Sometimes the Java console is greyed out.

I use Windows XP home (sp2) up-to-date, IE6.0, MS Installer 3.1, Nvidia
Driver Forceware v. 81.95 (6800GT).

I googled the problem and found several discussion posts relating to a
similiar problem. They seemed to point to a conflict between Sun Java and
Video Graphics settings. The jist of the discussins was that lowering the
settings would allow Java to work. I tried it and yes, Java worked.

My problem is that I don't want the headache of enabling and disabling my
graphics settings everytime I need to use Java. Nor should I have to. I just
installed the latest driver
and my graphics have never been better under full acceleration settings. The
old one had a conflict that sent into an infinite loop causing a crash and
BSOD.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java, the computer froze in the
process of uninstalling but after a reboot I was able to competely uninstall
it. To make sure I used ACE utilities to scan and remove from the registry
and file system any remnants of Java. Then I downloaded the whole package
and installed it. Still got the same problem.

Maybe this is an unavoidable side affect of outsourcing and low wages for
developers. A business gets so big that its primary objective is to make
more money. Maybe not, but I'm a cynic.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Heads-up posts like this one are helpful to others who are experiencing
similar problems. This is, after all, a performance issue.
The latest JRE update (JRE 1.5.0_06) is causing other conflict problems,
too. It's conflicting with Webroot Spysweeper to cause browser delay (see
Dave M post under Antispyware/Announcements). Seems to be a bad piece of
code in there somewhere.
