Sun Java Plugin for IE6

Despite selecting Sun Java, latest version, as the default for IE6 I cannot
view the speed test at http://www.adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp

I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no effect. Nor can I display the Sun
Java Console. A 2nd PC also running XPHome SP2 behaves perfectly and has the
same IE settings. Can anyone advise.

Hi Paul,

Check if the add-in is enabled in your Add-In Manager - Tools>Add-In
Manager.

Other than that the ssv.dll may not be registered properly. Post back here
if you need instructions to register the dll.

Regards.

Sun Java enabled in Add-In Manager, but says it is not verified. Any help
appreciated.

Hi Paul,

I did some research on my own pc for this, but it is still a guess.

Open your Downloaded Program Files folder. It should be located at

\Windows\Downloaded Program Files

You should have 4 entries for 'Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0'

First check that they do not have a status of 'damaged'.

Select all of the Java Runtime Environment' items (4)

Right click on the selection to display the drop-down menu and select
update.

This will ensure that any damaged files are repaired and that you have the
latest versions.

My machine had an update but this did not effect how I was able to view the
page in question.

Did you follow the troubleshooting suggestions on the page? This page also
uses a Java applet for the speed test. You must click on the speed test
control to activate it (new security introduced with the latest MS security
patches).... Possibly the machine that can view the speed test control does
not have the latest updates on it?

This is about my best quess

Regards.
