Help please - Java will not work

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Java version from Sun. I have
checked all my options to make sure that nothing is being blocked. Yet, all
I get is the little X in the window where Java should be playing. I went to
a real-estate site where Flash and Java were offered as options for playing
their virtual tours and Flash played okay, but the Java option only shows
the little X. My computer is running XP SP2 and IE. Java About shows that
I have the latest version installed. Can someone help me please. I feel
like a major portion of my computer is inoperable. Thank you.

Could be IE does not have Java enabled.
In IE, go to Tools | Internet Options and click on the Advanced tab.

Take a look in the window (you will probably have to scroll down) and make
sure that Java is enabled (the box is checked)

Rush,

Thank you for replying. Java is enabled and my security settings are such
that Java should run, but it doesn't.

Bill - I have a Motion COmputing 1400 and am experiencing the same promblem
and have been given the same suggestions with the same results. Motion is
suggesting a reinstall of the OS, but I want to check all options before I go
there. Have you found a solution yet?

Not sure which options you've tried, so....

Tools > Internet Options > Security > [click on Internet globe] > Custom
level > Reset

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Check "Use Java 2" in Java section

If you have Sun Java installed, run their testing utility:
http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.jsp

Also does your XP instance have the MSJVM installed ?
You can tell if you check IE's Advanced Options and scroll
down to the Java category. While they should co-exist on
the PC, I generally remove the MS Java and run only the
Sun version. You might also use the Java applet control in
Control Panel and delete all the existing Java temporary
data. You'll see that option at the bottom of the Java applet
in the Temporary Internet section of the details box.

I checked again and the Java section does not exist so this must mean that
Java is not installed! Motion did not go through this check list with me and
between you and R.McCarty I have installed Java and everything is working
fine. And I didn't have to do a system reinstall. You two are great! Thank
you very much!!
