summary properties unavailable

I have some digital photos I took several years ago and backed up on cd
now when I try to open them I get a no preview available out of Pic &
fax viewer, paint, picture it, or any other photo software I try. Also
In the properties summary view there is only "summary properties
unavailable"
These are 3 or 4 years old and I may have originally downloaded them on
a win 98 machine and burned them onto a disk then. Don't know if that
makes a differance but have seen some post with that question
The properties general tab shows file size , creation date etc.
I have not tried to open them on a win 98 machine, I don't know anyone
that has one anymore
Does anyone have any ideas
thanks
