Suddenly the system is looking for PROPLUS.MSI

I've made no major changes in my system, XP-SP2 but recently when I use
certain Microsoft programs the system wants the OfficeXP disk. Example - I
was using Excel and clicked the function symbol and a popup indicating that
something needed to be installed displayed. It is looking for PROPLUS.MSI
and if I cancel out the functions are there and work. But it happens every
time and to the best of my knowledge I didn't do anything to create this odd
behavior. I also had the Microsoft Antispyware on the system and every night
it ran a scheduled scan. Then, all of a sudden, every time it ran this same
"Preparing to install" pop up window appeared.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome as this is an irritant to be
sure.

The file proplus.msi resides on your Office CD. Next time it prompts you for
it, put the CD in and let it run.

When you try to use an office function that need files that were not
originally installed, you will have to insert your office cd so the files
can be accessed and copied to the correct locations on your computer. If you
have, for any reason, had the files lost/corrupted/deleted, you will have to
insert the Office CD.

Understood but that really isn't the problem. Per my example of an instance
where it happens, in a spreadsheet and I want to insert a function. The pop
up window to install appears. I actually did insert the disc and proplus.msi
was nowhere to be found so I cancelled and the function menu is there and
works.

It is in the "root" of the Office XP CD **if** you have a legal version.

So put your Office XP disk in and let it do what it wants to do.
