Error opening Excel and Downloading Office Updates

T

Tommy

I am suddenly encountering 2 problems:

Problem 1: When I try to go in to open Excel I get a
Windows Installer pop-up. Then its goes to Windows
Installer and I get an error message saying" the feature
you are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable.

Then I get Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required
files. The patch
\\Puma\base\software\desktop\officexp\PROPLUS.MSI cannot
be found

Problem 2: I am also running into a similar problem when
trying to download the latest office updates such as the
MS Word and Excel Security patches the download says I
should install. I get the same type of message concerning
PROPLUS.MSI. I usually go into both Windows Update and
Office update to stay up to date but now it won't allow
me to download the latest security patches.

According to my profile I have the following version of
Office - MSOffice XP Professional Version 2002 SP1.

Looks like some one has installed Excel from a network location rather
than from a CD. You need to change the location (or get access to the
server) to find the install files.
Uninstall Office and reinstall Office will ALL the features you need
rather than a Typical install (which only installs SOME common
components).
