Hello, I hope this forum is also for Outlook Express? If not, please let me
know where I can find the proper forum?

Since this morning OE has been methodically crahsing on me without apparent
reason. It happens every few seconds, or a few short minutes today. I shut
down OE several times but on restarting it said "Outlook Express hasn't shut
down correctly". I scanned it with Ad-Aware and Spybot, defragged, deleted
all my delete folders, then shut down the entire computer, let it rest,
restarted it...and no help.

It seems it happens in only one of my identities. I tried my other 2
identities before I posted this and they seem ok.

Will appreciate a lot any suggestions if you have them? Thanks ever so
much! Adela

Since it happens in only one identity, you may have a damaged identity
especially if it is the default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New
Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your
messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it.

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File >
Identities > Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all
folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into
the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File > Identities > Manage
Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Do you see the words Outlook Express in the title? Then it's NOT an
OE group.

Ask elsewhere.
