I ruined my Word CD...

WordPerfect8; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310"; Windows Media Player].

I hope this is the correct forum for my question?

I accidentally ruined my Word CD and miraculously Microsoft had consented to
send me another one for free...except they discontinued it and didn't have
any left to send me. I don't mind being without Word since I have
WordPerfect8 as word processor; but I seriously worry about losing what I
have in Word. Any suggestions? Thanks ever so much! Adela

I assume your question is "Where to get a CD from?". A much better place to
ask this question would be an MS Word newsgroup, and instead of posting lots
of not very relevant details about your PC, you should post the version of
Word you're using.

Hi Adela,

That's great, MS said they'd send you another one for free but OOPS! we
don't have any.

Depending on the complexity of your documents, you could install Open
Office which provides pretty good compatibility with Word. And it's free.

WP is a great word processor, but since you have version 8 (they are up
to 14 now), Word compatibility is minimal at best. I still use WP11.

Oh thank you Pegasus, do you happen to have the link to the MS Word
newsgroup? And thansk for reminding me to indicate the version (which I'll
have to get it from Belarc as I don't remember it). Adela

Thank you Terry, maybe I will use the Open Office and import My Word stuff
in order to save it. Other than this, I won't be bothering with Word.

As to MS willing to send me the CD I do believe them because they did send
me the WinXP Home Version when something happened (too long a story for
here - someone cheated me and they were able to catch him after I reported
him).) Thanks again!

My Word Perfect 12 reads Word files. Try loading some of your
Word files with Word Perfect and see what happens. Otherwise
Open Office is a good alternative.

Thank you Doug, I wish my WP8 did that, but it just refuses even my pasting
on it something that I copied in Word when I had it. But I'll try the Open
Office.) Adela

Just to add to what others have already said...it is perfectly legal to make
a copy of important cd's such as word. This way you will always have a
backup.

thanks very much Doug, but my Word Perfect is only 8 and it didn't accept
anything from Word... I'll try Open Office. Thanks again. Adela
