How to get Windows to give names to my zip disks...

(MS WinXP Home SP2; MS Office XP; OE 6; IE 6; Dell Dimension XPS T450MHz
Pentium III; 385MB RAM; AVG Free Version 7.5.503; spybot S&D; ad-aware;
cable modem; WordPerfect8; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310"; Windows Media
Player).

Hello, I'm told Windows can help me give label names to my Iomega zip disks
(the simple disks, no USB or plug ins). I tried without success. Does
anyone happen to know the steps I should take and where to get started? I
also searched Google for hours and nothing come up to help.

Thanks so much for any help. Adela

OT, Adella. AVG will no longer support version 7.5 sometime in June IIRC.

You can't right click on it in Explorer, select Properties, and enter a name
in the General Tab? Or do it via Control Panel, Administrative Tools,
Computer Management? OR do it in Device Manager?

Well, that's not the end of the world, either. It's still pretty
effective as it is.

But several people here have reported having problems with that version,
so maybe it's better to stick with 7.5. Heck, I'm still using 7.0, no
problemo.

I use Avast myself.

Is 7.0 still receiving updates? I shouldn't think so. Not even a mention of
it. I sure wouldn't trust it.

A little sleuthing about V 7.5 shows support until December, 31 of 08.

I don't know, as I disabled that part. Don't need it. I watch where I
go when I'm online (which is only when I dial up).

Might just as well uninstall it then. It's not doing you any good
with recent innovations with worms, virii, etc.

Unfortunately, those who get their kicks writing those kind of things
don't live in the past like you do.

It's doing me good, as it's catchin the old stuff (if there even is any,
coming in).

Another one of your "right tool for the job" examples??

Good for you. You like old stuff.

Why don't you stop looking for every opportunity to post those
preferences every time the subject of AVG arises. As you can see, most
of us would prefer to have the latest versions and couldn't care less
about whatever older version you are clinging to for whatever reason.

I'm not out to try and keep up with the Joneses, like you evidently are.
Or have to have the "latest and greatest" (snort). (which is, in reality,
a bunch of hype for the newbies).

Nope... just like to keep up to date. I also like to read the daily
news at several sites, rather than wait to read it in my Sunday paper
or my monthly magazine.

You've expressed your opinion on this more than once. I doubt that
anyone is influenced by it. All you are doing is exposing yourself as
being someone who doesn't like anything "new".

I'm surprised you haven't asked anyone how you might downgrade your
new Dell to 98SE.

I really am.

Nope. I have one of the best models of flash mp3 players out there. Try
again?
Black and white thinking.

I don't have to. I have it right over here, on the other computer. But
you go right ahead, and keep on insisting on having the "latest and
greatest" (like SP3 - snort). mooo, mooo (or is it, baaa, baaa?) (aka:
just follow the sheep and the yellow dashed lines on your way out)

FYI ad-hominem usage doesn't elevate your status in a discussion. It
merely exposes you for what you really are.

I think if you look back, you'll see that you have directly or indirectly
engaged in such activities yourself. What does that say? Some
projection noted.

You can try the format method. When you format your zip disk, you will get an
option to name/label it as well. So you can start with something like:
ZipDisk01, ZipDisk02 etc. etc.
