Delays of 20 second each time I click...

Hi, I hope I'm in the right forum and someone might have an idea of why and
how to fix this weird
slowness since about 3 weeks or so:

No matter how small the email message or web page is, and whenever I click
from
anywhere to anywhere, it takes 20 seconds or more. I'm very careful doing
everything recommended to keep the computer free of viruseses, spies, ads,
etc. I also frequently delete the temp files, defrag, empty delete folders
and others, and compact them too, etc.

Hi again Bruce, you won't believe it but I couldn't find the msg where I had
written that I agreed with you on people leaving dozens of AOL attachments
for us to click away interminably to open them, and at the same time I
posted my problem of a computer delay of 20 seconds going from one spot to
another. I went through the list here 4 times one by one, because I was so
angry at myself for not finding now when I did find it once this morning! I
should've remembered the subject under which I interjected my msg, and yes,
I know I shouldn't have done it, but I learned my lesson. )

Anyway, thanks so much for your suggestions on that message which I remember
well and wish to tell you that I do them frequently, thus:

(1) Delete temp Internet files and offline content too, plus defrag, etc..

(2) Compact all folders manually and don't disturb the puter while doing
it. I have SP2 therefore no automatic compacting.

(3) I don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. I move them all
to local folders created for this purpose.

(4) I empty Deleted Items folder daily.

(5) I did disable my AV too.

Then if all of that fails, I'll try to create new Identities, as you
advised. Thank you very much again! And I'm sorry for confusing the
messages. Adela
