Stuck on windows screen - won't boot

Sammy

Last night I accidentally pull the wrong cord out of the
wall and it was my computer power cord. The machine shut
off and when I pluuged it back in and turned it on it
gets to the windows splash screen with the moving bar and
then freezes. Only holding the power button in for 6-7
seconds will shut it off. Then I get the safe mode, etc
menu. Normal mode freezes, last known good config freezes
too. Safe mode works fine. I tried a few system resore
points going back 3-4 days and same thing, freezes on the
splash screen. No new hardware in about a year and no new
software in a few months. Windows XP Pro SP2 with all
updates. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Sammy,

Boot the WinXP CD and load the Recovery Console (see below). From the
command prompt, run "chkdsk C: /f", see if this helps.
