After repair install Windows is stuck on Windows XP splash screen

Hello,

I performed a repair installation of Windows XP Professional (SP2) on
a system that was not functioning well. The text mode installation
went successful. After booting back up, the system is stuck on the
splash screen with the blue bar scrolling. Therefore I cannot
complete the repair installation. What should I do? I cannot get into
safe mode as it will freeze up at agp440.sys.

Thanks
Mike

If the Repair Install won't finish, then the system was too broken for the
Repair Install to work. This is not uncommon. Presumably you backed up any
data ahead of time so just do a clean install now. You don't really have a
choice. This assumes that the "not functioning well" was software and not
hardware-related.
