Stuck in Classic View

Every since Windows updated with "software distribution service 2.0" I am
stuck in classic view. The Luna.themes and Luna.mysstyle files are prefectly
fine, I just copied them from a working computer. In the Computer Management,
Services it says that Themes is up and running and starts up automatically.
Yet everytime I try to go back to Windows XP style in the display menu it
tells me: "The theme could not beloaded because theme service is not
running. You can turn the service on in the computer management adminstative
tool in the control panel." Which is alreayd turned on.....

Any ideas? Or does any one know of a way I can simply delete the software
distribution service 2.0?

Thanks so much!

Read the instructions at the top.

One of these ought to do it.

187. Restore Themes Functionality

187. Right hand side
Restore Luna Theme

214. Right hand side
Windows XP Style Changes to Windows Classic

271. Stuck in Classic View? Undo Now

If XP Pro you can use Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |

Navigate to >>>

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\
Force Classic Start Menu
Set to: Not Configured

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Desktop Themes\
Load a specific visual style file or force Windows Classic
Set to: Not Configured

No such luck :(

I am running Windows XP Home edition with SP2 installed.

I couldn't figure out how to work fix 214 - Windows XP style changes to
Windows Classic. It appears to be a bunch of regedit stuff. When I compared
it to what is already in my registery it was the exact same. Any other ideas?

Thanks for you help!

Steph,

Make sure that the Themes service is set to Automatic and running.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Themes | Click the V next to Startup type |
Select Automatic | Click the Apply button | Click the Start button |
When the Themes service has started, click OK | Close Services

Double click the REG File and answer yes to the import prompt is how you
work Kelly's fixes.
Read the instructions at the top.

That means that you should've read this.

[[To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double click the vbs file.
You will be prompted when the script is done.

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this
is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These
scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry.

Disclaimer: These registry edits and script files are presented "as is".
Every effort has been made to ensure the files work as stated. I assume no
responsibility for your use of these files.]]

Without physically being at your machine, no one can tell you exactly what
you need to do to fix your problem. All anybody can do is give you a list
of things to try. Hopefully I've included enough in these two posts to get
you a good start. ;-)
