streamyx adsl connection problem

wah lao! and you still remember! it was when i just finished fresh install
my pc, simply put up a nick to retrieve postings. have been here since 1997
with couple of nick name changes. old nicks that i saw had already gone long
ago. few ppl that i remember are serial killer, chargers, wahlaoeh etc.

today asked my friend to test FTP upload at her place, work out to be fine.
so i robbed her pc back home and try out, failed to upload anything more
than 50kB. now it is either my modem or the wonderful streamyx service. i
hope it's my modem coz at least i can buy a new one. if it's streamyx side,
just gotta forget it and use 1515 to do upload.:( yeap dial-up upload work
just fine.

my icq and ftp problems are from two different cause. coz the friend that i
grabbed her pc back has icq problem, ftp works fine. a few search online
shows a lot of people having a similar problem with icq and aol (both also
from same company), most with no solution, some changed their router/modem.
i am surprise why i am the only one having problem in this newsgroup...
please drop a word if any other having a similar problem. i have at least 3
friends having same icq problem.

Started having chat problems for MSN on aztech after they (MSN)
upgraded so I got a Linksys router for mrs chiew cos she wanted to
talk to her sis in australia. Anyway MSN's voice chat sucks. Gave up
on MSN. Ended up using back aztech for skype voice chat.

Totally agree, MSN has been BAD (I doubt its Aztech or Linksys) for more
then 6 months now - it's so hard to connect and it wont sustain a
conversation; SKYPE on the other hand is simply marvelous!

Got a nagging feeling (not from mrs chiew though) that Skype is going
to spring a surprise on us by announcing charges ..... ;(

I doubt it, as...

1. Its P2P technology, so users hardly use SKYPE's resources, unlike MSN.

2. Their revenue model is charging users for calls made to regular
phones, at discounted rates using VOIP on what they call 'Skype Out'.

Good. Good. In a model like this, skpe could swing the users towards
the paid service by deteriorating the free one. A bit like what
rapidshare is doing right now.

try to check the IP address for you modem and your netgear. plug your
modem to you NIC check the gateway , and plug your netgear router and check
the gateway, if both of them is using the same one . you need to change the
router LAN ip address to other one ... maybe this will help........
hopefully,.

Neil,

try direct connection without the wifi..if it's fast then no problem with
your streamyx. I'm not sure about opening the UDP and TCP port on the router.
Will that help?

Called Streamyx support line, they solved the problem after 3-4 calls with 2
reports made in one week time. Finally! It is a problem with my port. I have
no idea exactly what they did.

Cheers!
