wireless network can not keep connection alive

dear experts,

not sure if this has anything to do with Windows XP at all but I have ran
out of resourses... I have a wireless router Netgear RP814 with 64bits WEP
setup and disabled boardcast SSID. I have a laptop that is running Windows
XP Prof SP1. I have no problem connection to network or internet at all.
However, for MSN and ICQ, they keep disconnect from me every few minutes.
But I can reconnect it back with no problem every time. I have used the
"keep alive" function on both chat program but still have no luck. I have
been keeping my eye on the Netowork connection status icon and it says
"Excellent" all time with no interuption. This program does not exist when
I use line connection(ethernet) with my laptop.

So, anyone have any idea what's going on? any idea is appreciated.

I have the exact same problem with my Compal CL56 Centrino notebook with
Intel 2200BG wireless network adaptor.

I have folowed all the advice about disabling 802.1x authentication,
stopping wireless zero config, disable powermanagement.

Still the connection starts to degade from 54mbit to 48mbit and
eventually lands on 1.0mbit after about 10 minutes. Then mIRC and
messenger times out and I have to reconnect them. As soon as I start to
surf using internet explorer the speed goes up to 54mbit, so it seems
like windows XP doesnt even know the connection has been droped.

(btw I have no problem in gentoo linux with the ipw2200 driver, the
connection is rock solid and never degrades or is timed out when there
is no activity)

Best Regards
