Strange Thumbnail Behavior

I want to say out the outset that I have become suspicious of unauthorized pc
entry recently so that I've become acutely aware of things on my computer
that I would classify as strange.

If I click on the My Documents folder and then look at my folder that's
titled FAMILY PICTURES, the folder of FAMILY PICTURES looks as if four small
tif pictures are pasted on it. I, myself, never did that. I want to change
that file folder look to what it looked like originally with a small, blank
file folder thumbnail in its place.

I've right clicked on the FAMILY PICTURES file folder, then clicked
Properties, and then clicked Customize. I'm not sure this is right but I
clicked Restore Default for the Thumbnail view. Nothing Happened. What's
really going on? How can I restore the Thumbnail file folder look that was
originally there-a small empty file folder icon. Has someone been tampering
with the registry? Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Create a dummy file named folder.jpg inside the FAMILY PICTURES folder. Also, delete the hidden file named "thumbs.db" in the FAMILY PICTURES folder.
