strange network problem

I have IP Address which is showing live when i ping,
but that IP Address host is no more existent on network.
tried GFI Langaurd, but says some unix host but doesn't
give me any MAC or any other information.
I can get detailed info of other machines on the network.
Also this IP Address is clashing to some other server,as
the moment i removed the network cable from that server,
the ping stops, but the removed network cable machine
has different IP Address, different MAC and also
i changed to other switch port on the network.
Only thing is i suspect there are some entries
in either WINS, DNS Databse causing this problem.

But i am not sure,Any help in this will be appreciated

Have you tried "nbtstat -a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" from the
command line? (where x is the IP address).

This will perform a reverse DNS and attempt to resolve a
name to the IP.

Also, I've found that GFI Languard tends to resolve any
unknown operating system as UNIX, such as routers and
managed network hardware (managed switches, etc). Check
for these. Otherwise it *may* have something to do with
an alternate IP on one of the machines (set as a static
route by either adding to the local hosts file or in you
DNS server).
